Dave Molyneux Announces Retirement From TT Racing

One of the most famous names in sidecar TT racing has announced his retirement from the sport at the age of 60 years old.

His career stretches back to 1985, meaning he was racing at the TT, and across other sidecar series, for a full ten years before the 2024 Senior TT winner, Davey Todd was even born! In that time he’s not just amassed one of the most impressive hauls of TT wins and podiums (17 wins and 31 podiums) but he’s also credited with being one of the biggest innovators in the sidecar category.

Away from the racing, Molyneux developed his own DMR sidecar chassis, of which there were two circulating in this year’s event. Molyneux ended his final ever TT race with a podium in the second sidecar race, rounding out the podium in third alongside his passenger Jake Roberts on their Kel Properties DMR Kawasaki.

Speaking about the racer's retirement, Paul Phillips, Head of Motorsport at the Isle of Man TT, said:  

“Dave is undoubtedly one of the greatest competitors the TT has ever seen. His determination to win has always been matched by his ability to innovate and he has been at the forefront of sidecar racing for decades.

"I've known Dave all my life and he has been a massive help to me personally during my time working on the TT with advice and support for which I will be forever grateful.

"Seeing him score a podium finish at this year's TT was such a highlight and it is great to see a true living legend go out on such a high note. He leaves the event with a remarkable legacy for current and future champions to aspire to.”
