Kawasaki Ninja 1100 SX SE Confirmed in Documents

Kawasaki looks set to announce a larger capacity version of its Ninja 1000 SX sports tourer this winter, as type approval documents from Austria reveal a new 1100cc version is incoming.

The new bike is thought to be being readied for the 2025 riding season, which should lead to further details on the model being announced this winter - meaning we might see it at EICMA.

The new machine noted in the documents as a Ninja 1100 SX SE, is thought to be much the same as the existing Ninja SX, with the changes for the upcoming model year wholly focused on the engine of the bike. German outlet Motorrad has reported the documents, and it’s even managed to snag some alleged spy shots of the new machine. Spoiler alert, it looks exactly the same as the existing model!

More interesting than the styling though is how Motorrad has calculated how Kawasaki has gone about stretching the inline four-cylinder engine. Rather than increasing the stroke of the unit, which can be complicated and expensive, Motorrad reports that the bore of the bike could be increased by 1.7mm taking the total displacement to the 1,099cc that is stated in the documents.

Motorrad has also had a stab at calculating the potential power output of the upcoming machine, and if their numbers are correct it could be producing upwards of 150bhp - up from the 142bhp of the current bike. It’s also possible that the SE part of the new bike's name could point to the inclusion of some semi-active suspension following the Versys 1000 SE and H2 SX SE which both are shod with Showa-developed KECS (Kawasaki Electronic Controlled Suspension). For further information on that matter, we’ll have to wait for the official announcement of the bike, which shouldn’t be too far away.
