Unlike the 'Sportsters' which aren't sporty, the Ultra Classic IS an ultra classic.
It's stared in movies (eg Electra Glide in Blue) and has been relatively unchanged in almost two decades - yet it still appeals and still works well in its role as a full dress tourer with a personality and poseability.
It's got the Route 66 cred mated with a near Pan European level of comfort and luggage carrying ability. Performance and handling is in a different league to the rapid Pan but the Ultra Classic's got enough pace to keep up on the motorway and blast sports cars away from the lights. Handling's smooth and stable if limited by ground clearance.
Key ID: pre 2002 bikes lacked the alarm as standard and had a different swing arm
Don't fear: older bikes - as long as they've been well maintained
