A new middleweight adventure motorcycle has been announced, as the Rieju Aventura 500 Legend is unveiled at EICMA. The bike is a bit of a departure for the brand, which has primarily focused on small-capacity off-road and enduro bikes until now.

As a first crack at a full-size adventure motorcycle, on paper at least, the Aventura looks good. Power comes courtesy of a Loncin-built, Honda-designed 500cc parallel twin. That should mean power output of around 47bhp, but more importantly, it’s likely to be reliable.

Like the engine, the chassis seems to have all the right elements. Long-travel USD forks are joined by a single mono-shock at the rear, and the seat height is claimed to be a manageable 820mm. The Aventura is also shod with adventure-spec 21”/18” (F/R) wheel sizes, with spoked wheels and radially-mounted calipers at the front.

Rieju Aventura 500 Legend has 600+ mile potential range!

The real party piece for this bike comes in the form of a cavernous 29-litre fuel tank. It’s a twin-tank design on this bike, with one of the tanks residing above the engine and another within the rear subframe of the machine. Given the Honda-designed engine has a very frugal nature, when I tested the Honda CB500X I was averaging 70mpg on a motorway cruise, the potential range of the bike could be more than 600 miles. Obviously, that assumption is made given that the engine in this machine is just as frugal, and we’ll have to wait for more cast iron specs from Rieju to confirm.

Like the final spec of the bike, the pricing for this one is TBC. We’ll keep a close eye on the Rieju website for any updates and will let you know once it is announced.
