Tommy Bridewell to Wildcard at Cremona World Superbike Round

Tommy Bridewell will get a run-out in World Superbike for the first time since 2019 at the inaugural Cremona round next weekend.

The reigning British Superbike champion has been in fine form for most of 2024 and currently leads the BSB standings from Yamaha’s Kyle Ryde. Champion for the first time in 2023, Bridewell leads Ryde by 19 points with three rounds remaining (nine races) as the showdown begins this weekend at Oulton Park.

Then it will be a switch to World Superbike machinery as Bridewell, who will be riding his Honda Racing UK Superbike, albeit modified to comply with WSBK regulations on 20-22 September. Bridewell has experience of the Cremona circuit after joining the official Team HRC World Superbike team for a test a few months ago.

Speaking about his wildcard, Bridewell said: “I’m here to race; it’s what I love doing so I’m really looking forward to it to be honest. We had hoped to join the WSBK race at Donington but unfortunately the stars didn’t quite align for this to happen.

“I really enjoyed the Cremona wildcard evaluation a few months ago so it’ll be great to have the opportunity to put into practice some of the things we learnt from this and keep on building the momentum ahead of the final few races of the BSB season.”

While Honda might be struggling in World Superbike, Bridewell’s form in BSB has been very impressive since leaving Ducati at the end of last season. Honda has not won a BSB title since 2013 when Alex Lowes took the crown.

Honda Racing UK Team Manager, Havier Beltran added: “We are delighted to take this opportunity and participate at the World Superbike race at Cremona next weekend. The prospect of continuing to work closely with our HRC colleagues in the WSBK paddock was a chance not to be missed.”
